At the 2026 World Cup, England is in Group L with Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. All three group games will take place in the United States, and each kick-off is scheduled to be in the prime-time evening television slots for viewers in the UK. The group runs from the 17th to the 27th of June 2026, and the top two teams are guaranteed a place in the newly formed Round of 32. The third team has a possibility of advancing if they are one of the eight highest-ranking third-place finishers.

On June 17, 2026, England will play Croatia in Dallas: the venue for England's opening match of the World Cup, which will be held in Texas. The match is scheduled for 15:00 CDT, which is 21:00 BST, in the UK.

On June 23, 2026, England will face Ghana in their second group match, which will take place in Boston at 16:00 EDT. The match will again commence at 21:00 BST. It has the potential to provide one of the loudest atmospheres for an England match in the group stage; a large number of Ghanaian supporters and a significant Ghanaian diaspora in the Boston region should provide much noise and result in a very exciting match.

Finally, on June 27, 2026, England will conclude their group stage matches when they play Panama at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (the same venue that will host the World Cup final). The match will be played at 17:00 local time (22:00 UK) and will be the last of England's group-stage matches. Depending on England's result in their first two group stage matches (and the results from the other two teams in this group), England’s match against Panama could determine if England qualifies out of this group in first place, must win to qualify, or allows England to rest key players (if England has already qualified to proceed into the knockout phase). For fans in the UK, the times of play for each match in the UK are very simple, with Dallas being a six-hour difference and Boston/New Jersey being a five-hour difference from the UK whenever we are in BST. The most important thing is that all of England’s group matches will primarily be broadcast to UK audiences between 21:00 and 22:00 hours, therefore providing easy access to view the matches for English fans and hopefully leading to high viewing numbers (and high levels of fan engagement).

England’s Pathway to World Cup 2026 Semi-Finals

In case England manages to qualify from Group L, qualifying as winners of the group will make it easier for England to get to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2026. Qualifying from Group L will mean that England will avoid being drawn in a tough match against a team that is considered one of the best in the earlier knockout rounds.

England, being the group winners of Group L, will face the best third-placed team in the round of 32 matches. Third-placed teams in the Round of 32 will be drawn from groups E, H, I, J, and K. It is expected that the third-placed teams will provide England with an opportunity to play easily, thus creating rhythm and also conserving minutes for some of the key players. If England wins the Round of 32 match, they will advance to the Round of 16 matches. This Round of 16 will present much difficulty compared to the previous match; however, they will be able to compete against another group winner or a second-placed team.

If England progresses past the Round of 16 matches, they will be one step closer to reaching the quarter-finals. Usually, at this point in the tournament, only serious contenders for the trophy remain. At this stage, England is likely to face another top European side or a South American power. By winning this match, they will guarantee themselves a place in the final four, thereby advancing to their third semi-final of the World Cup.

From the way the seeding and placement for the World Cup 2026 have been done, if results turn out to be in line with the current standings, England will be able to avoid facing many of the top teams before making it to the semi-finals. This means that England must make sure that they qualify from their group and progress past the first few knockout rounds before they can get to the semi-finals.
